Brian Malone

Master Luthier

For nearly two decades Brian Malone has been honing his skills repairing guitars and other fretted instruments and teaching guitar building and repair classes. Since opening Atlanta Guitar Works in 2007 he’s taught hundreds of students from around the world to build and repair their own instrument.

Brian embarked on his luthier career in 2000 when Tim Joy, Master Luthier at Mars Music in Marietta, GA, recruited Brian into the guitar repair department from his then position as the Drum Department Manager. When Mars Music closed its doors nationwide Brian took his luthier skills to Jackson’s Music in Douglasvile, GA while also setting up shop at the Atlanta rehearsal space Black Box to work directly with the musicians of Atlanta’s local music scene.

Eventually Brian took up a bench at Southeast Guitar Repair where he continued refining his skills and assisted in management of the shop until he and Tim Joy reunited to open Atlanta Guitar Works. Now the sole owner of AGW Brian has seen the business flourish under his direction for more than a decade. After taking a brief sabbatical to care for a beloved family member in East Tennessee, Brian is back in the original location of Lilburn, GA to train the next generation of luthiers and guitar techs at the revamped and updated Atlanta Guitar Works!
